One of the basic basic training exercises for a strongman (ostensibly) has you performing 400 pull-ups. Many call this “the insane workout.” This is a videotaped exercise that Shaun T, creator of Insanity, performs while wearing a full-body harness and only one shoe. Some people think that the best way to build muscle is to do sets with fewer reps(5 or fewer) with perfect form then rest for 4 or 5 minutes before repeating the process again ad infinitum. Strength is best built through heavy weight training, which demands that you work out with high reps (15 or more per set is not uncommon) and short rest periods. After each set, give yourself only about 30 seconds of rest before doing the next one. If you are using heavier weights, do two or three sets of 8 to 12 reps for each exercises instead. You can get the same results by using a lighter weight and doing 20 to 25 reps per set. Your muscles become stronger and larger through micro-tears in the muscle fibers after each exercise. The body then repairs the muscles, which makes them stronger and bigger than before.
